Here’s the third part of The History of English in Ten Minutes. By now we’re up to Shakespeare. These clips are humorous, but they’re very informative, considering how short they are: this one contains several examples of expressions that seem to have been coined by Shakespeare, some of which (‘eyeball’, for instance) I, at least, would never have thought of as having first appeared in his works. This post on the OxfordWords blog has some more interesting examples.
